I would argue that Silk's awareness of the time stoppage is an anomalous
result
of his being out of time, by way of his enlightenment. I think it more
likely that no one would notice a change in the velocity of a body the size
of the Whorl. It is, after all, the size of a small planet. As for
disruptions, the Whorl is already quite disrupted before Silk's
enlightenment, and it grows quickly worse as the narrative progresses. Of
course, I know very little of ftl travel.
