I can't help thinking you're seeing what you want to see there -- indications of crisis are ambiguous at best; I suspect that, if there's a crisis going on, it's only a crisis for the NP, not for the whole country. I think a good analogy here is to the Narnia books -- it isn't a "replay," but, if God made multiple worlds, how things might play themselves out, differently but according to the old patterns, in those worlds.
